Designing better metal extraction
The most abundant sources of metal are difficult to extract profitably. Biomining is the cleanest, cheapest metal extraction method but doesn’t work on the majority of ores. We’re changing that.
At 1849, we’re bringing the full capabilities of modern biotechnology to the mining industry. We’re using these tools to develop better microbes for biomining applications, starting with difficult to process copper ores like chalcopyrite.
